Transportation 10 tips to make transportation in Denver more enjoyable ![]() 1. Hop on the bus - RTD has more than 700 bus trips from all over the metro area that link to Downtown Denver. For more information, call RTD at 303.299.6000 or visit them at www.RTD-Denver.com. 2. Express Buses - You can park your car at one of 59 RTD park-n-ride lots (that's 12,500 parking spaces) throughout the metro area and take an express bus direct to Downtown Denver. For park-n-ride locations and express bus schedules, call RTD at 303.299.6000. 3. Ride the shuttle - Once you've arrived in Downtown use the free 16th Street Mall shuttle to connect to all your Downtown destinations. 4. Ride the rail - RTD's light rail line runs from I-25 & Broadway through the heart of Downtown to Five Points, with stops at the Auraria Higher Education Center, the Colorado Convention Center and the 16th Street Mall. Coming in July 2000, the light rail system will extend 11 miles south of downtown to Mineral Avenue in Littleton. 5. Save money with an RTD pass - Monthly or multiple ride passes are the most economical way to ride. Also, ask your employer about enrolling your company in RTD's Eco Pass program. Eco Pass works on all regular RTD bus services, including SkyRide to Denver International Airport, and is a tax-deductible employee benefit that's also tax-free to employees. Eco Pass also features the Guaranteed Ride Home program, which provides a free taxi ride to employees who use alternative transportation and have an unplanned schedule change, illness or emergency. Contact your human resources department or call RTD at 303.299.6000 for more information. 6. Join a carpool - Carpooling with co-workers or other Downtown employees can be a stress-free, reliable and economic way to commute. Plus, you can take advantage of the region's timesaving High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on your way to Downtown. To find carpool and vanpool partners, call RideArrangers at 303.458.POOL or visit them at www.drcog.org. 7. Ride a bike - The Cherry Creek and South Platte bike path networks offer great access to Downtown from all corners of the Denver metro area. Bicycle commuters report cost savings and health benefits from the daily trip. Call 303.640.BIKE for route information. By calling 303.458.POOL, RideArrangers can set up a bike pool partner for you, especially if you're just starting out. 8. Telework - In the new information age, employees can work from home with the help of fax machines, e-mail, the internet and other technologies. Teleworking can result in higher productivity, less stress and lower commuting costs. Talk to your human resources department about telework arrangements for your company, or call the Downtown Denver Partnership at 303.534.6161 for information. 9. Park Smart - Parking gets less expensive at the outlying edges of Downtown. Also, garage spaces are usually more expensive than surface lots. 10. Plan Ahead - Be aware of events and activities in Downtown. For instance, parking rates in Lower Downtown are higher on Rockies game days. Rates around the Colorado Convention Center are higher when large events and activities are scheduled. The following transportation services are within close proximity to Johns Manville Plaza:
